Accidents Are So Unfortunate…

On Friday, December 10th, I’ve experienced my very first car accident.

I cannot recall a major car accident when I was younger. I can only recall minor ones, such as another car door hitting the side of my family’s vehicle, but never collisions of any kind.

As I was listening to Jamie Cullum and being mesmerized by his dreamy voice, I stopped by a red light about to make a right turn on my way to Target. Cars were passing by so I was unable to, and eventually the light had turned green. A teenage kid on a skateboard was crossing, and though he wasn’t half way through the crosswalk, I figured I can wait since he’s moving at a fairly quick speed. I wonder if I can ever go to a Jamie Cullum concer-

2 seconds into my thought came a massive force that jerked my body into a frenzy of wild movement. The collision was so abrupt and so unexpected that I looked up to my rearview mirror to find a shocked driver, and to my right, the kid with the skateboard in a state of disbelief. Breathing heavily and trying my best to figure out what had happened, I pulled over to the side of the street. With shaky hands, I took out my insurance and worked out the logistics with the driver.

I came back to Biola an hour after the incident, and sat in my damaged car in the parking lot of Alpha. Traumatized and still listening to the soothing tunes of Jamie Cullum, I recalled what had happened over and over again until I came to a revelation.

I am so incredibly thankful.

Thank God for His amazing grace that no one was seriously injured. Thank God for a humble driver who admitted his mistake and took full responsibility for it. Thank God for suppressing my anger and guiding me in the righteous way that a Christian should act in this incident. Thank God for a heart full of peace throughout the whole time. Thank God that my car is still able to run well and only the bumper was effected.

I have such a big God. And He answered the silent wishes of my heart - I’ve always wanted a brand new bumper anyway :)
